Word normally prints on a sheet of paper from top to bottom with the narrow edge 
on top. Word can also print "longways" on a sheet of paper, with the long edge on 
top. This orientation is ideal for brochures or reports with graphics or just 
when you're feeling in a longer rather than taller mood. 

The true names for these options are portrait mode for the up-down paper and 
landscape mode for sideways. (A portrait picture is usually taller than it is 
long; landscape is for those lovely oil paintings of seascapes or lakes and trees 
that are wider than they are tall.) 

To make Word print in landscape mode, do the following: 

  1. Choose File, Page Setup. The Page Setup dialog box appears. Make sure that
     the Margins panel is forward if it´s not already. 
  2. Choose Landscape (or Portrait) from the Orientation area. 
  3. Click OK. 

Printing in landscape mode may require you to adjust the document´s margins. 

Make the decision to have your document in Landscape mode before you do any 
extensive formatting. That mode does affect your paragraphs and other formatting, 
so it´s better to have it done first. 

Avoid printing standard documents in landscape mode. Reading speed slows 
drastically when people must scan a long line of text. Reserve landscape mode for 
printing lists, tables, and items for which normal paper is too narrow. 

You can have landscape or portrait mode apply to an entire document, from a 
certain point forward, or to a selected section within your document. 

It´s possible to change orientation in the middle of a document; for example, you 
can have one page in a long document print in landscape mode. To do that, you 
must take advantage of Word´s section-formatting commands. You start a new 
section, change the page orientation for that section only, and then start 
another section when the page orientation needs to change back.
